Google Refreshes Chrome 36 for Desktop and Android

Google released Chrome version 36 (36.0.1985.125) this July for desktop and Android platforms. The new version comes with a number of additions, improvements, bug fixes and performance tweaks. The desktop version is for Windows, Mac and Linux and it is possible to update to this version using the browser’s built-in silent updater or download directly from Chrome site. Chrome 36 for Android will be available soon in Google Play.

One of the major highlights of the desktop version is the new incognito mode. The latest version provides you with a revamped page for incognito with new icon with front facing view and clearer message.

Incognito or private mode is useful for SEO testing. While you test your optimized search results on Google, it is required to add “& pws=0” at the end of each search for eliminating personalized results since the search engine remembers certain pages visited even after signing off from your Google Account. As there is no prior browsing data linked to your account in private mode, you can perform a Google search without any personalized data by simply opening the private mode window. You can also open multiple Google AdWords accounts (if you have) quickly and safely using private mode and manage them easily rather than logging in and logging out each time.

Another visual change with desktop version goes to rich notifications. They have been slightly changed to a flatter look. There are several other changes associated with Chrome 36 desktop version as per Chrome’s official blog post such as:

  • Browser crash recovery bubble (new prompt when browser crashes)
  • Chrome App Launcher for Linux
  • Plenty of under the hood changes for stability and performance

The update also involves 26 security fixes and many of the bugs were detected using AddressSanitizer.

According to Chrome’s official blog post, Chrome 36 for Android also includes incremental changes such as improved text rendering on sites that have not been optimized for mobile devices, the return of Google Doodles to the new tab page, plenty of bug fixes and performance improvements. Two security fixes are also included in the update.
